Next Steps for New Christians
Please don’t do what I did! After I received Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, I didn’t tell anyone or begin going to church for two years. Those years were basically wasted, as I didn’t really know what to do next. Here are some assurances and next steps for you to begin doing today, right now! Don’t miss out on one day of what the Lord has for you! “So then‚ just as you received Jesus Christ as Lord‚ continue to live in Him (Colossians 2:6).”
Assurances
- If you truly meant it when you prayed to receive Jesus Christ, He is in your heart right now and will never, ever leave you! Jesus said, “…I am with you always…” (Matthew 28:20).
- You are 100% sure now of going to heaven when you die. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).
- Your sins are forgiven forever. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins…” (Ephesians 1:7).
Next Steps
- Pray and study the Bible: Each day, set aside 20 minutes or so to have time alone with the Lord and focus on Him and His presence. Start studying the Bible in John, Chapter 1. Also, go to this website to download free Bible study and spiritual growth materials.
- Seek out a solid church to attend: Talk to the Pastor or leaders about how you received Jesus Christ, and ask about being baptized. Baptism is a symbol of having already received Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, not as a means to forgive sins. Find a church that actively believes these three basic, vital Biblical truths: 1) Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, 2) the Bible is the word of God, and 3) they focus on reaching others with Christ and teach others to do the same.
- Share your Faith: Tell family, friends, whoever, how you received Jesus Christ. Perhaps they too are ready to accept the Lord like you did. We have free materials on our website that will help you learn to effectively share your faith.
- Find other strong Christians for Fellowship: Spend time with Christians one-on-one and in small group Bible study fellowships.
